About
SAFE (Sound Awareness For Everyone) at The University of Iowa is a group of clinical and research audiologists and graduate students, based out of the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Clinic, interested in hearing conservation. Hearing conservation practices are meant to prevent noise-induced hearing loss. It is this group’s aim to increase the awareness of such safe listening habits among the general public including adults, teens, and children. In addition to spreading the word about how to practice every day “auditory hygiene,” SAFE has an additional focus of educating musicians about their unique acoustical environments, how those environments affect their hearing, and the musician-specific hearing loss prevention and intervention options available to them.
